Flutes For Sale

Awohali
Cherokee for Eagle

This beautiful bubinga flute is tuned to the A pentatonic minor scale. The eagle is a revered bird among many Native peoples, including the Cherokee. The fetish is a bald eagle head, carved from maple. A bald eagle head is burned into the body of this flute just below the nest area. Another bald eagle in flight is burned, with white-painted highlights, at the foot. There is a silhouette of yet another eagle in flight in blue lapis inlay, just below the mouthpiece, with another full moon inlayed in crushed magnasite. The lace holding the fetish to the nest is cut from deerskin. (July 2021) – $350.00.

Yonv
Cherokee for Bear

This eastern red cedar flute is tuned to the “low” C pentatonic minor scale. The fetish is a prowling grizzly bear, carved from some leftover wood from my Hook & Hasting tribute flutes. I believe it is pine. A grizzly sitting on the side of a hill is burned into the body of this flute just below the nest area. Another grizzly, fishing at the side of a rushing stream, is burned at the foot. There is a bear paw print in fuchsite inlay, just below the mouthpiece, with a full moon inlayed in crushed abalone shell looking down on the bear on the hillside. The lace holding the fetish to the nest is cut from deerskin. (March 2025) – $450.00.

Waya
Cherokee for Wolf

This cherry flute is tuned to the “low” C pentatonic minor scale. The fetish is a prowling timber wolf, carved from poplar. A howling wolf’s head, beneath a large crushed abalone inlay moon, is burned into the body of this flute just below the nest area. A full body howling wolf, beneath a smaller crushed abalone inlay moon, is burned at the foot. There is a wolf’s paw print in turquoise inlay just below the mouthpiece. The lace holding the fetish to the nest is cut from deerskin. (March 2025) – $450.00.

Daqua
Cherokee for Whale (here an Orca)

This is my first time for using the Daqua (whale) as a flute theme, although I did carve an orca like this one for a custom flute for a friend many years ago. If you think it strange that the Cherokee have a word for “whale,” the Cherokee traded all over the southeast, including to the Atlantic coast, where they certainly would have seen whales in the ocean or washed up on the beach. This flute is made of mahogany and is tuned to the “low” B pentatonic minor scale. The fetish is an orca, rising up out of the water, carved from bocote. A mother orca and her calf is burned into the body of this flute just below the nest area. Another orca rising out of the water, beneath a crushed abalone inlay moon, is burned at the foot. There is an orca silhouette in blue lapis inlay just below the mouthpiece. The lace holding the fetish to the nest is cut from deerskin. (March 2025) – $500.00.
