Awohali

Cherokee for Eagle

This beautiful bubinga flute is tuned to the A pentatonic minor scale. The eagle is a revered bird among many Native peoples, including the Cherokee. The fetish is a bald eagle head, carved from maple. A bald eagle head is burned into the body of this flute just below the nest area. Another bald eagle in flight is burned, with white-painted highlights, at the foot. There is a silhouette of yet another eagle in flight in blue lapis inlay, just below the mouthpiece, with another full moon inlayed in crushed magnasite. The lace holding the fetish to the nest is cut from deerskin.  (July 2021) – $350.00.

Kvtli

Cherokee for Raccoon

This eastern red cedar flute is tuned to the “mid” E pentatonic minor scale. The fetish is a raccoon emerging from a stump, carved from some leftover wood from my Hook & Hasting tribute flutes. I believe it is pine. A “cute” raccoon, in the thin branches at the top of a tree, is burned into the body of this flute just below the nest area. Another racoon, poking its head out of a tree hole, is burned at the foot. There are raccoon paw prints, front and rear, in blue lapis inlay, just below the mouthpiece. The lace holding the fetish to the nest is cut from deerskin.  (June 2025) – $400.00.
